My 1 photo Per Month

Dec 30, 2025 | By: Ian Hibbert

Each year, I embrace a simple challenge that allows me to slow down and reconnect with my surroundings: capturing one meaningful photo each month. This isn’t about selecting the “best” photograph or the most technically flawless shot. It's about choosing an image that reflects the essence of that month and evokes its feelings. In 2025, this practice evolved into a visual journal—documenting my experiences through light, weather, wildlife, and those precious, fleeting human moments. Join me as I share my year, one photograph at a time.

January – Standing Strong January began with a beautiful tree caught in a snowstorm. Snow blurred the background and softened the world, but that tree stood firm—quiet, patient, unmoved. It felt like a perfect metaphor for winter itself: stillness with strength underneath.

February – The Joy of the Climb February’s image shows a young family walking up a hill, bundled up and smiling, just moments before sliding back down again. I loved the sense of effort followed by laughter. Childhood winters are short, loud, and full of motion—and this photo holds that energy.

March – Pond Hockey In March, winter loosened its grip just enough for two young friends to play hockey on a frozen pond. There’s something timeless about that scene—no rink, no crowd, just sticks, skates, and friendship on melting ice.

April – Between Storms April brought drama. A seagull flying high against dark storm clouds caught my eye, suspended between calm and chaos. Spring often feels like that—hopeful, but unpredictable.

May – A Cold Splash of Color May’s photo is one of my favorites: a very cold Baltimore Oriole, puffed up in a tree, looking incredibly orange and fluffy. Even when spring is slow to warm up, nature still finds ways to shine.

June – Yellow and Still June’s photo captures my wife sitting quietly in a field of yellow tulips. The light was soft, the moment unhurried. It’s a simple reminder that some of the strongest images come from stillness and presence.

July – A Breath of Summer July brought a moment of surprise: a young duck caught mid-breath, blowing air as it floated on the water. It’s playful, almost humorous, and perfectly summer—warm, alive, and a little unexpected.

August – Stillness by the Pond In August, I photographed a green frog sitting at the edge of a pond. The world was loud with insects and heat, but the frog was perfectly still. Sometimes the best summer moments are the quiet ones.

September – The Last Sweetness September’s image shows a bee gathering the last of the nectar. There’s urgency in that scene—nature preparing, knowing change is coming. Early fall always feels like a soft goodbye.

October – Urban Texture October took a turn toward the human-made. A city park bench at a skate park, surrounded by graffiti, captured the raw texture of the season. Fall isn’t just leaves—it’s concrete, color, and stories layered on top of each other.

November – A Milestone November wasn’t about wildlife or landscapes—it was about growth. This month represents selling my first calendar: Wildlife Through My Lens. Holding that finished product was a proud moment, and a reminder that passion projects can turn into something real.

December – The Path Forward

December closes the year with icy hiking paths, slippery and quiet. A reminder to move carefully, stay present, and trust the journey—even when the way forward looks uncertain.

Looking Ahead This one-photo-a-month project continues to remind me why I picked up a camera in the first place. Not to chase perfection, but to pay attention—to seasons changing, to fleeting wildlife encounters, to everyday moments that might otherwise slip by unnoticed. As I look ahead, I’m carrying that mindset with me: slow down, stay curious, and keep creating with intention. Whether it’s wildlife, landscapes, or small human moments, I’m excited to see where the next year leads and what stories unfold through my lens.
